Delta County Could Repeal Oil and Gas Regulations
The county's reasoning is they want to wait until the state and the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission rewrites oil and gas rules after the passage of Senate Bill 181, which gives local governments more authority over oil and gas activity.
Commissioners
say if this resolution passes, they would rely on an interim process, which
mostly consists of hearing public comments and concerns.
"Quite
honestly, I don't expect anything to be permitted in this county, probably in
the interim until we develop regulations. We don't have a lot of oil and gas in
Delta County, and what we do have is on federal ground, so our applications are
minimal at best, and I really don't see that we'll have any activity at
all," said Delta County Commissioner, Don Suppes.
It
could take 18 months to 2 years before new rules are put in.
Commissioners will decide on the resolution on September 17th.
